Q.    I played in a band in a School/College/University band. How would your band compare?. Would the music be the same?

 A.    You would probably find a difference in the repertoire. Bands in the education system usually play specialised wind music whereas we more often tailor our programmes to audience preferences. Our programmes mostly include music from the stage and screen, big-band or swing music –one of our specialities – and popular music, as well as some orchestral transcriptions.

Another difference is, that an adult wind band would be made up of people of mixed ages and varied abilities. Our ability range is from Grade 6 upwards. You would also find an adult band has its own social life formed around the band membership.

The last main difference would be the engagements. We would probably perform more than you are used to, some of which would be out of doors.
